Q. IX.1 Who is responsible to house a youth when he/she is ordered out of the house by the court?

A. If the court does not place the child, the child can go to the Department of Social Services for emergency shelter and food stamps.

Q. IX.2 Can a youth under 18 sign a lease?

A. Technically, a youth under the age of 18 can sign a lease. The lease, or any contract, however, is not legally binding on the youth and, therefore, many landlords will refuse to enter into a lease with a minor.
